Overwhelmed: Book Review and Giveaway

**Disclosure:  I was not financially compensated for this post.  However, I received this book for free  for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my own experience.**

**UPDATE:  Congrats to Allison, the winner of this giveaway!  Check your inbox for an email from me!**

Have you ever felt overwhelmed? Especially when it comes to finances? I know I have.

Did you know that financial stress is one of the top reasons marriages suffer? And one of the biggest reasons for divorce? Scripture tells us that when you are married, you become one with your spouse. This means you are one in everything, and everything includes finances. Are you “one” with your spouse in the financial department right now? Do you communicate about your budget? Do you discuss big purchases? Do you work together and have a monthly finance meeting? Do you know you can find peace in your circumstance if you allow God to be a part of it?

overwhelmed

I was blessed to be able to review this book Overwhelmed: Hope and Help for the Financially Weary, by a group of awesome Christian bloggers. This book was a true blessing and I highly recommend it!

Sometimes finances can become so overwhelming that you feel like giving up and nothing can ever fix the financial hole that you have fallen into. In this book, you will hear from several women who have experienced financial burdens that made my heart hurt so bad for them. But you know what? God always provided in the end. It may not feel like it when you are going through it, but if you fully trust in Him, He will prove to you that He can overcome any financial burden you face. These women are living proof and such inspirations!

In this book you will also find a collection of helpful information and resources that these women have used in their financial struggles, from consumer credit counseling services, dealing with credit card debt, income tax, credit reports, property tax, help with utilities, Medicaid, C.H.I.P and food stamps. They give great advice on how to find practical help with these struggles while also relying on our Savior. They also write from the heart about how money is not ours. It is the Lord’s first and how tithing is a spiritual condition of the heart.

Are you a woman in business and need some encouragement financially? The “Women in Business” section is calling your name! You will find encouragement in your business, and resources for how to make money blogging, how to earn money from home writing unit studies and e-books, connecting the homeschooling mom with home business, the priorities of a home business and how to maintain your vision. And my favorite chapter: does your business reflect Christ?

The second half of the book contains practical ways to live frugally. My friends, you can find some seriously awesome, “why-didn’t-I-think-of-that?” frugal ideas here! Looking for some frugal cookbooks and links to awesome recipes? They got it covered. Menu planning? Shopping tips? Covered. Think it’s impossible to eat healthy and organic because of cost? Think again. Do you know how inexpensive it is to make your own laundry powder, cleansing wipes and fabric softner? I had no idea! Did you know there are 20 different things you can use baking soda for? I mean, really! And for those of us that are moms, we know how expensive children can be. There’s a few chapters designated specially to help us moms! And we know us moms need all the help we can get 😉

This is one of my favorite quotes from the book:

Sometimes God calms the storm. Sometimes He lets it rage and calms His child….Peace is not a means to evade your circumstances, it comes within your circumstances. God is not in the business of of putting out fires but in creating firemen. The kind of firemen who courageously run into a trial, carrying buckets of faith to put out the flames or endure the heat for a season. –Richele McFarlin from Under the Golden Apple Tree

Don’t you love that analogy? Carrying buckets of faith to put out the flames… Those words just speak to my heart. We can either let the flames consume us, or we can fight the flames with our faith that Christ will provide. How awesome is that!

Are you struggling financially? This book is for you. Are you struggling with inviting God to be a part of your finances? This book is for you. Are you just looking for Christian wisdom about finances?  This book is for you! You can purchase Overwhelmed: Hope and Help for the Financially Weary for $4.99 right now. You can also purchase the super cute Study Guide: 9 weeks of Reflections (and doodles) for $2.99. Each chapter has a verse focus and reflection questions, and of course, a place to doodle! Looking to do this with a small group? You can download the Leader study guide for free! (all are available in kindle, print and pdf form!)

The lovely authors of this great resource have been so awesome to give me a copy of Overwhelmed: Hope and Help for the Financially Weary to give away to you! The winner will receive the book, as well as the study guide and leadership guide!!

Thank you for this review! We just had our offer accepted for our first home so I’m definitely going to need to start to be more financially fit, as I’ve never been someone to budget or pay much attention to my finances.
