We have been experimenting alot with smoothies lately, and I have created some pretty tasty concoctions that the whole family loves. It’s such a healthy alternative to other carby or processed breakfasts, and it’s filled to the brim with health benefits.
Let’s take a look at what’s in this smoothie:
Kale– Kale is low in calories, zero fat and and high in fiber. It is high in iron, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C and antioxidants. It is also a great detoxifier for your liver.
Cranberries– Everyone knows that cranberry juice is the go to drink when you have a UTI. Not only does it promote urinary tract health, cranberries are full of disease fighting antioxidants. They also improve your metabolism and help your digestive tract perform its job better.
Blueberries– This little fruit wins for packing the most antioxidants in the fruit world. Blueberries help boost your immune system, promote brain health and promote urinary tract health.
Flaxseed- Flaxseed is a fiber rich food, and we all know fiber keeps your bowels in prime working condition. Most people don’t get enough fiber which can lead to constipation. You can bet this pregnant girl is loading up on fiber these days. It’s also loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids which aid in the body’s anti-inflammatory response.
Chia Seeds– Chia seeds are gluten free, rich in antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids. The combination of the fiber and protein found in chia seeds helps keep you feeling full, which helps reduce cravings.
Mmm…so good! Put the following ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. If you are using fresh fruit, then you will need to add ice. Enjoy!
1 cup frozen cranberries
1 cup frozen blueberries
large handful of kale
2 tablespoons honey greek yogurt
1 TBS ground flaxseed
1 TBS chia seed
Vanilla Almond Milk (add til you get the consistency you like)
