Embracing Imperfection. Growing in Faith

November 19, 2013

{Experiencing Peace} Love Always Wins

And so we know and rely on the love god has for us.  God is love.  Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in Him.  In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgement, because in this world we are like him.  There is no fear in love.  But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  The one who fears is not made perfect in love.                         1 John 4: 16-18

I have a confession to make.  I’m afraid.  Less afraid than I was 3 months ago because I prayed and prayed for peace in my heart and God gave it to me.  But I’m still afraid.  Of what?  Our future.   As you know, Dr Smartypants graduated in May with his phd.  He has applied to nearly 30 universities/research labs and we are waiting to hear back from most of them.  Universities and government research jobs are so so so slow to respond, and the government shut down put many of these companies on a hiring freeze.  So we wait.  It’s like torture!  Dr Smartypants is teaching 3 classes at a local university, and we are so thankful for that.  But what happens after that?  What will we do after that?  We just don’t know.  And my husband has decided to label this season in our life “occupational purgatory.”

There are days we both are fully confident that God will get us out of this purgatory and there are other days that we feel defeated and fearful of the future.  That fear lands us on our knees.  Last week, my husband and I got down on our knees and prayed about our future together.  It was amazing.  We pray together every night, but there is something about getting down on your knees that says “God, I trust you! But this is hard! I’m asking for peace only you can give!”  God promises a future for us, and it is clear in 1 John 4: 16-18 that fear and love don’t go together.   God is love and our life is built upon Him.  Therefore our lives are built on both the foundation of Love and God, which are the same.   When Satan tries to convince us otherwise, we have to remember that our fear is always conquered by His love.

Welcome to the new series, Experiencing Peace.  Over the next few weeks, we will look at what God says about experiencing the peace that only He can give.

What do you fear?  What struggles are you asking God to give you peace with?

Love the concept around your series. I hate feeling that uncertainty. Not knowing what the future will hold. That’s when I just have to stop and trust that all will work out. It usually does.

When uncertainty come knocking at my door, I deal with fear also. Fear has a big stronghold in my life, so I know all too well that prayer on my knees seeking peace that only our heavenly Father can give. The verse that helps me with this is Philippians 4:6-7

Looks like a wonderful series of seeking peace from the one who supplies it! Kuddos for being vulnerable in sharing your heart. 🙂
