Embracing Imperfection. Growing in Faith

October 3, 2012

{Made 2 Crave} The Perfect Portion

God is the perfect portion for everything we need, every longing we have, every desperate desire of our soul.  -Lysa

The Dr is a foodie.  He will be the first to admit he loves food.  When we first started dating, we loved to go out and eat…ALOT (not that we don’t now, but we have alot more responsibility then we did 5 years ago-with a kid and all).  Thankfully, all that eating out was canceled out by 4-5 days of mountain biking.  Then we moved to Texas and I started nursing school.  In nursing school, you have absolutely no life.  I mean, NO life.  We lived off of hamburger helper and tuna helper. (sad).  We still occasionally ate out, but there was no exercise.  There was no time for exercise! (ok-I didn’t make time) Ahem.

Anyway, we were so used to eating out still at this point that our portions were sometimes…alot of times… out of control (compared to healthy standards).  At Thanksgiving, I definately went back for a second plate.  These days, one plate will suffice.  Since I began my journey of healthy living and weight loss, I have trimmed down my portions considerably.  Everyone is always concerned that when you trim down your portions that you will feel like you are starving to death.  And yes, you do feel hungry at first.  But that eventually goes away as your body learns to relate to healthy portions.

His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”                  Lamentations 3:22-24

It’s easy to grumble at those hunger pains.

But have you considered that God is the perfection portion in all things?

God used Moses to lead His people out of Egypt.  Once there, they grumbled about food.  God rained down manna everyday, but if they took more than a day’s worth (except before the Sabbath day), the manna would rot.  Every day, the Israelites were dependent on God, and only Him.  Yet they continued to grumble and for 40 years, they wandered the desert learning that lesson.

I certainly don’t want to wait 40 years to learn that lesson.  We are dependent on him in every aspect of our life, whether it be weight loss, healthy living, parenting, your relationship with your spouse, your relationship with a loved one, your friendships, your education, your everything.

He is our daily and perfect portion in all things!
